Description

It so happened that one of my earlier introductions to sci-fi was actually introduction to cyberpunk. Man, I was - and am to a point - such a cyberpunk nut. William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Neil Stepehnson, Steve Adams, Paul di Fillipo - if these names tell ya something, you know what I'm talking about. Transnational asian corporations, mind-shattering drugs, smooth AIs, monofilament wire, black ICE, wet-ware... Damn, these were the days.

I've written about 20 or so short stories that in some way were cyberpunk fiction and three novel-length pieces, that even garnered mild popularity. Funny how I imagined the current times just a decade ago and it's hilarious to read how I expected future to be. So in some sense I think I have this nostalgia about the now retro-cyberpunk. But the current times that we live in IS cyberpunk, so the genre's aint dead and I'm so pleased to see it being revived - mostly through games, like the new Deus Ex, Syndicate and the upcoming watchdogs, and I like the modernized cyberpunk aesthetics too.

So, this is sort of a mish-mash of retro and present cyberpunk. Deus Ex meeting Blade Runner meeting Crysis.

The Tiba Runners are light-armored couriers for hire - codebreakers and identity thieves that are tasked with delivery and initial data protection for criminal conglomerates. Usually quite wealthy, the almost always go overboard with cybernetic augments. Their scraped look at a point became a fashion statement in some subcultures, so these days it's hard to really tell if such an individual is really a Runner, or just a rich youth trying to act tough.

As far as the work goes, I went for a Zoonoid-ish style and very pleased with it - first "pro-emulating" CA I pumped out in a while.
