Lurking betrayal by TD-Vice Lurking betrayal by TD-Vice
The sergeant overlooked the gathering of the squad, counting the heads of the assault marines. Most were there, on top of a ruined watchpost, erected by the damnable xenos - and thank the Emperor's Light, the squad made short work of the greenskins as they've rampaged through the ork's ramshackle "fort".
Now, the were to picked up and relocated to a different site, to the main theatre of war.

Sergeant Ivus Borral blinked at the autosenses in his helmet, watching the augmented reality icons blip above his squadmates heads, feeding him information on their status, health and powerarmor performance. He kicked a fleshy, green corpse with his boot, and behind the grill of his helmet his lips pouted as he noticed the last Astartes land on the ferrocrite platform.

"Decimus..." He practically hissed at the lagging behind Assault Marine and gripped the worn-down handle of his powersword as he strode to the late squad member. The others from squad Razorfang snorted, knowing Decimus would once again get punished - both for stalling their progress and ignoring subordination.

"Sergeant Borral!" The other marine greeted and held up a huge, leathery and bloody object in his hand that the sergeant only a moment later recognized as an ork head. Looking at the edge of Decimus's armor, Borall noticed two similair grisly fetishes fastened to the assault marine's jump-pack intakes.
Not to mention that the marine was covered head to toe in blood, and the armor rusty and unkept despite Borral's previous orders to report to the Chapter's Master of Sanctity. Borral was tired of Decimus and the latters lonesome ventures into killing despite given orders.

Walking up to the proudly grinning Astartes, Borral's voice rose up significantly, untill he was face to face with Decimus.
"Where... is... your... helmet, DOG!?"

The hostility wiped the grin from Decimus' face and the ork head plopped to the ground. "What're you trying to become, a warpin' Warboss?" veteran Turik spoke behind Decimus's back, loud enough for him to hear the sarcasm in his voice. The assault marine fumbled around his belt, and, sensing the rage from the sergeant, dropped to one knee, holding the helmet - clean and clearly unused - up to Borall.

The sergeant critically looked it over.

"Do you realize, that this is a part of the holy armor that is to be used in conjunction with the rest of it? That the blessed machine spirites were tuned so that via this artefact you remain the part of the squad, getting orders?" Borral inquired, noting how Decimus averted his gaze.

"Yes, sergeant".

"Do you realize, that this helmet was worn by your brother, who had fought in the name of the Emperor and found his death in it, as should you in the honor of his name, his spirit residing within it?"

The kneeling marine's jaw clenched. "Death, as I should. Oh right."

"Yes, sergeant.

"Where are you seals of purity, strength and machine placation?"

Suddenly, the smile formed on Decimus's face and Borral found himself not liking the grin of the bloodied marine. He didn't like the way his subordinate's eyes suddenly steeled, as if he was laughing internally at him. With a slight smirk, Decimus answered.

"They were lost, in battle."

"And this?" Borall pointed to the disembodied ork heads.

"Trophies."

Then, the assault marine's face met the ceramite and steel of the sergeants boot. There was a crunch of bone and a splat of blood, that didn't much to ruin the already spattered with rusting bodily liquids, armor. Decimus lurched back, holding an arm to his broken nose and scratched face, but managed to remain on the knee.

"Fifty lashes for seal loss, fifty for helmet, sixty for being late to rendezvous, and yes..." He lowered his helmet-covered face to Decimus, who glared at him. "Trophies are prohibited. Forty more."

The other marine remained silent as his brothers dismantled the ork heads from the jump-pack.

Wow, he looks pretty neat. Still got to work noses and his lower jaw is somewhat too thin.

I hope that the sergent ends up raped with hungry nurglings or become pregnant with tyranids.

Rust? Have loyalist chapters gone so low as to use iron as armor? Haha! Did Decimus found a clogged ork toilet for the "purity seals"? That be fitting.

So, Torturer was part of the Luna wolves? Also, great coloring =) The story is good as well. Any plans on going forward to a whole series about how Torturer turned to Chaos?

P.S. The marine on that drawing is the Torturer right? Because if he is not I'd feel really stupid

No, not Luna Wolves, Emperor's Wolves.

Hah nope, there won't be story series, just flashbacks in the main storyline.

Well I guess flashbacks should do just fine. And those Emperor's Wolves... is Torturer by any chance a part of the 'warped' company? Blood disciples/followers was it?

Also one final thought on that story you wrote - It shows that fanatically following the Emperor's will is just as twisted as any demon worshiping =) I think I'd rather be a renegade in the 40k universe lol.

Yes, Blood Disciples exactly)

Considering the Emperor requires constant, mass.sacrifices of the advanced humans - psykers - he's worse than a daemon)

Damn sergeant. Plenty of the Emperor's greatest heroes went into battle without helmets! I hope the whole chapter ends up like every other Space Wolf successor!
Awesome work as always though.

I guess the psycho-indoctrination never took well with Decimus/Torturer, eh? Bully them.
I guess it was an issue with the entire 8th Company Emp.'s Wolves, as they got lost in the warp and emerged Khornate worshipping loonies/badasses.

Borall has a point: helmets are very useful. They keep your head from being peppered with bullets and shrapnel, for one. And prey-sight is not to be scoffed at. Maybe Decimus just LOEVs the swoosh of wind in his hair? Sadly not yet long and flowing.

As for the art: my two nit-picks is the intakes on the jump pack (they shouldn't glow any more than the intakes of an ordinary airliners gondolas do) and the lifted arm's "armpit" region. He looks more like a miniature with arms glued on than an actual person.

The greaves are wonderful, though. Specialised for Assault Marines. Lovely.

But I have to ask: Why white and bronze armour?

Yep, he resisted it quite well. I've sort of imagined this chapter to be very assholish, in every means possible, both to the outer world and amongst themselves.
Well I've sort of wanted a closure on why the character doesn't wear a helmet often, so here it's both because there's the constant orders feed and yeah, the character likes blood on his face, plus deeply-seated habit of utilizing a force-shield and not thinking about the whole "shrapnel to the face" thing.

Glowing intakes just look cool. Fixed the armpit.

Why white and bronze? It's actually white, dark grey on the trims, and bronze parts. Well since the Emp. Wolves don't have an official color scheme, I gathered that white-grey would fit for the "wolf" part, and the regal bronze for the "emperor" part. Straightforward design logic, no?

Ah, that explains it all nicely.

And thanks for answering. Just curious to the reasoning behind it, whether it was more symbolic or if it was more heraldic (the latter has colour rules). And yeah, they've no official colour scheme. This makes for a nice one.

No one who kills such nice boyz should be allowed to go unlashed.

And the blood is perfect, not too over-the-top, but definitely suggests a fight with poorly armoured, overbuilt orks.

Those poor lads...they're just a green smear now...boss.

I don't venture that deep in my characters bio, never thought about how they'd look. Think typical snotty aristocrates

Astartes live for centuries, Chaos-alligned can live for thousands of years.

This looks good. I like the armor color-scheme and the expressions. Torturer's face and pose remind me of a dog bringing a dead bird to it's owner: "look what I killed! Aren't you proud of me?" I think this is really good backstory for Torturer's transformation from a loyal Astartes to a warrior of Khorne. Now what I really can't wait to see is Torturer's transformation from Khorne to Slaanesh further down the line.

Damn Empy Wolves...I thought you lot of Russ were all about trophies, glory, and getting dirty in a good old-fashioned brawl.

But it's a good insight into another explanation of Torturer's evolving dissonance with loyalist mindset. Just a shame those poor orkses had to suffer for it. No wonder Stokk and the rest bore a grudge, heh.

The empy wolves just share the geneseed sorta, but its a variation of the Spess Wuff geneseed. Basically they're a stuck up chapter that deemed itself majestic and noble, despite being small and insignificant, often violated the Astartes Codex and really have no "schtick".

More like a schtick up their collective ass. Nevertheless, a nice insight into the fomenting of that individualistic will of his.
