First off, this is one of my new favorite pieces from you, I think you made an excellent job at conveying the message, communicating your own perspective; the pose and facial expression are very dynamic, but yet suspended into what it seems to be an asphyxiating viscous matter, and then all the black substance coming from the inside, it might be talking about the purge of internal processes, mind against the body, so to speak. And then again, the weather isn't helping, is it? Anguish incarnated indeed.
Now, those colors and lighting are superb. You've been working with similar palettes before, very instinctual apparently, even when Beksinski influence seems to be obvious, I think you've found your very own harmony in the primary colors, keep it up with those experiments.
Technically there is just a little detail, the texture exceeding the margins of the painting and overlaying the black border. I suppose it's something you didn't see, in that case, it's time to calibrate your monitor, because it means it's too dark and you're not seeing your images correctly.
I'm hesitant about giving 5 starts, because there always things we can improve, but anyway, great work as usual.
i'm nowhere near experienced enough to give specifics about how fucking epic this is but i just really want to say - you really have improved man, your projects have become more ambitious and ....fuck idunno...alive?
Anguish. Over what? No need to specify; just anguish. And you capture it well. Poor thing (I'm loathe to call it a person, honestly as that would detract from the surrealistic and "general" nature of the emotion in it) looks positively tortured. So, giving reason to your handle, eh, TD?
People have commented on that the black fluid reminds them of oil. To me, it more resembles tar and it makes me think of a long time smoker choking on its own lungs, for some reason.
The non-differentiated teeth and the claws instead of fingers and toes dehumanizes the creature further, but I can't make up my mind whether this is good or bad. If it had been more human, the emotion this provokes and tries to convey would've been overwhelming.
I have not liked a deviation like I like this one in quite some time. I've always thought your surrealist stuff was your best. There is a powerful, twisted strength in this creature's body, which terminates explosively in it's mouth. The maw is very hard to look away from, and it feels attractively abyssal. Excellent job. I can't quite tell if it is vomiting or lunging to bite, but that is a quality I rather like about it. I'd put it up on my wall.
